Director of Nutrition Services Job Desciption
The Mission of the Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) Nutrition Services Department is to provide students and staff of the district with high quality service along with appealing, safe, nutritious meals that will enhance the learning process and well-being of our students.
Our vision is that all students will be knowledgeable of the importance of good nutrition habits and incorporate these habits into everyday food choices to enhance the mind and body for optimal physical health and academic performance.
GIPS Nutrition Services staff is committed to our mission and goals, serving almost 10,000 students at over 20 locations in Hall County.
Position Summary
The Director oversees and directs the operations, activities, and personnel of the district's school food and nutrition programs to meet the nutritional and educational needs of the students.
Primary responsibilities include developing and administering a sound and progressive child nutrition program and operation while following district, state, and federal procedures, compliance and regulations; coordinating and supervising all school district foodservice operations including the Child Nutrition Center; reviewing and updating policies and procedures; overseeing the hiring and training of foodservice staff; implementing and maintaining quality and cost control procedures; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
Provides technical direction and coordinates the various food service programs.
Performs other duties and participates on other projects as warranted.
Develops and implements a system to provide for the control, administration, supervision, and operation of a cost- effective and quality food and nutrition service program for individual schools in the district.
Facilitates and directs operations of the district's school foodservice department using knowledge of foodservice systems management and child nutrition program regulations.
Implements and assures compliance with federal and state guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program and for the Free and Reduced Meal Program.
Accommodates State representatives tasked with performing periodic program reviews and fully cooperates with all recommendations regarding USDA federal program compliance.
Oversees the primary functions and activities of the Child Nutrition Program, providing an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and customer satisfaction.
Collaborates with the district wellness committee and coordinates wellness policy, assessment and periodic evaluations on district and school level compliance.
Oversees hiring, staffing, onboarding, training and development of staff to include proper work methods, safety practices and procedures, training on tools and equipment utilized ensuring that staff participates in required Professional Standards training and obtains (maintains) any required certifications.
Coordinates and conducts school nutrition staff meetings and in-services as needed.
