Niewohner Trucking Inc (Niewohner Entities) is looking for a Logistics Manager at Albion location that will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of transportation, distribution, and supply chain management for all trucking operations.
This role involves planning and executing the efficient movement of feed, livestock, and other resources to ensure the smooth functioning of operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Feed Management for Feedlots:
Plan, Schedule, and coordinate the procurement and delivery of feed, supplements, and other supplies required for feedlot operations.
Manage usage and change levels of feed to prevent shortages and ensure uninterrupted feedlot activities.
Collaborate with feedlot managers, feed suppliers, vendors, and distributors to establish efficient supply chain processes.
Livestock Transportation
Coordinate the transportation of livestock to and from the feedlots/hog units, including incoming and outgoing finished animals using the most efficient and optimal route for miles, cost, and roads.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity protocols during transportation.
Fleet Management:
Manage the fleet of trucks and trailers used for livestock and feed transportation ensuring well maintained and clean.
Schedule maintenance, repairs, and inspections with Maintenance Manager to keep the fleet in optimal condition.
Monitor fuel consumption, transportation costs, and maintenance schedules to optimize operational efficiency.
Coordination with Feedlot Manager, Cattle Buyers and Backgrounders, Packing Plants, Ethanol Plants, Contract Truck Drivers and Procurement, and Hog Selector/Finishing Managers:
Collaborate with procurement to plan and schedule cattle deliveries to the feedlot and collaborate with packing plants on schedule for deliveries.
Collaborate with feedlot managers to plan and schedule distiller loads to feedlots.
Collaborate with Hog Selector and Finishing Manager to plan and schedule loads to packing plants.
Record-Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for employee’s timesheets and time-off requests, log books, fuel usage, maintenance records, and CDL Driver files.
Generate reports on transportation activities, feed utilization, inventory levels, and other logistical movements.
Maintain all DOT paperwork requirements including, but not limited to: CDL Driver folders, Medical evaluations, Drug and Alcohol Clearing house, Inspections, Maintenance logs, etc.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, permits, and guidelines related to transportation, feed handling, and livestock management.
Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect the wellbeing of personnel, livestock, and the environment.
Monitor cameras and driver reports.
Team Management:
Supervise and lead the logistics and transportation team, providing guidance, training, communication, and performance evaluations.
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the logistics department.
Cost Management:
Develop and manage budget related to transportation, feed procurement, and logistics operations.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize logistics expenses.
