POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for the management of repair and maintenance of the plant equipment to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Member of plant leadership team.
Participate in setting objectives, plan development and performance review of plant performance.
Initiate development, management, and execution of a comprehensive preventative/proactive maintenance program.
Maximize reliability of equipment while helping to control the maintenance budget.
Repair or replace plant equipment or systems on a scheduled or emergency basis.
Maintain and repair maintenance shop equipment.
Monitor the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiate reordering when necessary.
Maintain computerized maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
Supervise plant maintenance personnel.
Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
Communicate regularly with maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training maintenance employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting employee performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.
Ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures.
Monitor operation of plant equipment and systems.
Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
Be hands-on in the root-cause diagnosis and trouble-shooting of maintenance related issues.
Initiate and carry out projects to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
Assist with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions.
Assist with new installations and other projects, as requested by operations supervisor.
Work with engineers, operations supervisor, technicians and external contractors to plan and implement installation of new equipment or systems.
Communicate directly with operations and shipping/receiving department to coordinate maintenance work orders and repair work in process areas.
Maintain safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
Know and understand city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to maintenance and plant equipment, and work in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times.
Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
Work in a safe manner at all times.
Participate in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness.
Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs.
Be available for overtime work on a scheduled or call-in basis as required.
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required
College degree or technical degree/certification; millwright, electrician, welder, pipe-fitter required
Required Knowledge & Experience:
7 years’ experience in maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment; pumps, valves, compressors required
Welding knowledge and experience on carbon / stainless steel preferred
Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System preferred
Forklift certified or capable of achieving certification
Knowledge of and strict attention to safety precautions and rules required
