PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION Plans, coordinates, and assists the company's quality assurance and quality control program to ensure smooth and continuous operation in a cost-effective manner and in compliance with established codes, standards, and customer specifications.
The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Assurance Provide the necessary leadership and strategic planning to develop, implement and maintain a quality assurance and quality control program to support the company mission and ongoing continuous improvement effort to eliminate defective work and associated costs.
Collaborate with the various department heads to ensure the quality assurance and quality control program is comprehensive, incorporates best practices, and is consistent with the strategic plan of the company.
Prepare and update the quality assurance and quality control programs.
Administer and implement the company quality assurance and quality control program manual to stay compliant with established codes, company standards and customer specifications.
Update as required.
Administer and provide ongoing continuous improvement and implementation of the quality assurance and quality control program.
Plan for and provide training and personnel development opportunities for company employees to build a culture of quality throughout the company.
Assist the various business units with business development efforts by participating in pre-qualifications and customer presentations by providing data and marketing material to support the company's quality mission statement and program.
Also have frequent contact with customers to build positive customer relationships.
Develop and manage AISC Program/ISO program Manage and maintain all appropriate quality control documentation, including WPS's, Welder Qualifications, supplier qualification records, MTRs, non-conformance reports, etc.
Ensure adherence to all AWS, Jurisdictional and other plant specifications.
Work with shop personnel and Quality department to document and improve all processes.
Coordinate with other departments to make sure that their part of the quality control system is maintained.
Job responsibilities and roles will expand and change dependent upon the workflow in which additional or other tasks may be assigned.
Review contract documents and participate in pre-planning of projects to provide input to the project team for preparation of estimates, schedules, and project work plans.
Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings to communicate quality assurance and quality control expectations and lessons learned.
Update the Project Manager of progress, issues, and problems related to the project and work with the Project Superintendent to coordinate all aspects of the project plan.
Recommend and assist Quality Control Manager in hiring, training, and assignment of quality control resources (inspectors) for the performance of inspections and project related duties.
Ensure all work plans incorporate the requirements of the contract drawings, specifications, and submittals and that all materials, equipment and workmanship are inspected for compliance.
Provide input and direction to resolve quality control problems (non-conformances) through proper inspections, root cause analysis and corrective actions plans.
Track, Follow-up and Maintain costs associated with Warranty Issues and Rework.
Produce reports and recommendations to Construction, Estimating and Upper Management.
Coordinate and manage the process of flowing down expectations and requirements of the quality assurance and quality control program to respective subcontractors, suppliers and other vendors who are contracted to perform work for the company.
Evaluate subcontractors and follow-up with Quality Pre-qualifications.
Safety - Maintain safe working conditions for all employees and prioritize safety over deadlines.
Oversee the Company's Safety Program.
Develop safety policies and programs necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
Develop safe standard work practices with facility personnel and monitor conformance through safety and housekeeping inspections.
Ensure compliance with company and government health and environmental safety regulations.
Complete all required government reports relating to safety.
In cooperation with the management team select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Review new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommend modification before introduction.
Conduct and/or coordinate training in all safety related topics as deemed appropriate by the management team.
Monitor safety and health performance and recommend actions for improvement.
Conduct walk-thru inspections of the facility and recommend corrective action where occupational hazards exist.
Conduct accident and incident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
Chair the Safety Committee meetings.
Assign corrective action duties to team members.
Manage all workers compensation claims, including light duty and return to work programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES Education Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
OSHA 30-hour Training Course Preferred Experience Experience in heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Five years of experience in a manufacturing quality assurance system preferred.
Safety Management in an industrial setting preferred.
Other Qualifications and Requirements Affiliation and certification with recognized QA/QC associations such as American Society for Quality (ASQ) desirable.
Strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Standing and/or walking 50% Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls.
